Dr Thariq Bagus is an Ophthalmologist who began his career at the University of the Witwatersrand in 2014. During his residency he received multiple awards from the Wits School of Clinical Medicine and the South African Glaucoma Society. In 2019 he was honored with the Elie Dahan Ophthalmology Registrar of the year Award.
After residency he completed a two-year Refractive Surgery Fellowship with Emira Eye Clinics, accredited by the Refractive Surgery Alliance Society. During his fellowship he also completed Physician CEO (Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University, Chicago).
In recognition of his commitment and contributions to the field of Refractive Surgery he was also honored as a Fellow of the World College of Refractive Surgery and Visual Science, a distinction shared with less than 1000 elite refractive surgeons worldwide.

Having performed many thousands of refractive surgeries Dr Bagus is highly experienced in all forms of vision correction procedures. He is particularly passionate about treating cataract-related blindness and delivering high-performance vision with laser vision correction procedures such as LASIK.

His strong sense of social responsibility has taken Dr Bagus on many community outreach missions and he continues to participate in cataract camps in partnership with organizations such as the Tshemba Foundation, the Islamic Medical Association and the Bureau for the Prevention of Blindness. He is also a consultant surgeon for the Keratoconus Foundation where he delivers a cornea transplant service and mentors young surgeons.
He loves teaching and regularly delivers lectures in Refractive Surgery to ophthalmology residents.
